Education and Art

During January – March 2021 the FjordPhyto team gained two new members to help develop our educational curriculum content!

Master of Advanced Studies student Carmen Zamora worked on building lesson plans that convey important phenomena occurring in the Antarctic coastal ecosystem. She worked for months on lesson design to achieve the Next Generation Science Standards for Science, Engineering, Disciplinary Core Ideas and Crosscutting Concepts. These lessons are designed for the middle-school (8th-grade) level and look forward to the next step of collaboration with educators and teachers to advance them to the next level.

In turn, Jordan Newman, artist and graduate student in the science illustration program at California State University, Monterey Bay, worked to convey important elements of the Antarctic ecosystem into stunning visuals with eye-catching detail. His artistic design amplifies the key themes related to FjordPhyto in the Antarctic Peninsula.

The two PDF posters below highlight the results of his work during the initial development stages of FjordPhyto curriculum.
