FjordPhyto receives support from the National Science Foundation

We couldn’t be more ecstatic to share the news that FjordPhyto has received funding support from the National Science Foundation!

TheĀ Division of Polar Programs provided support for the first season of FjordPhyto (2017-2018) under a one-year Public Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Research (PPSR) grant. This allows us to purchase equipment to provide a couple of sampling kits to three ships for five months during the 2017-2018 season. To expand this first-year effort further, we borrowed two CastAwayCTDs from Xylem SonTek and the Birch Aquarium to engage two more ships in a one-month-trial period. Additionally, Allison Lee is able to begin as a graduate student in the Biological Oceanography PhD program at Scripps with Dr. Maria Vernet.

Thank you NSF, SonTek, and Birch Aquarium!
